Wes Mattheu comes from a family of artists, musicians and tinkerers in the heavily forested, rolling hills of Harford County, Maryland.
Taught piano at age six by his Aunt Thelma, he soon took up guitar and drums himself, rehearsing with boyhood friends in the attic of a barn on his family’s property. He has gone on to replicate the warm, lived-in musical feeling he found between those rafters in homes and warehouse spaces in Baltimore, Philly, and now Raleigh, North Carolina, through both “the meadows and the ghettos!” as he puts it.
